My name is Alan Jeffries and I have worked as a Chartered Accountant in private practice for 40 years. My late change in career path was instigated by my grandson Bertie!

Over the past few years I have made up stories based on my young grandsons various habits and past times. From these bedtime stories grew the "Jersey Adventures of Captain Rupert", a pilot and his trusty sidekick Laurie the dog who live above the Aero Club in Jersey.

They solve mysteries and take part in various adventures including , the theft of Jersey Royal potatoes, by a fake Jersey cow; avert disasters including a Red Arrows plane breakdown and get involved with all manner of fun and frolics. The stories are set in Jersey and include many well-known landmarks and regular local activities, such as Durrell's, Oyster Beds and Gorey Castle.

My grandson Bertie loved the stories so much, that I decided to write them down and then asked a family friend, Molly Hall to come up with some illustrations and finally these were published as a series for Bertie.

They were actually launched on 'World Book Day 2017' and a set presented and read to the children of Mont a L'Abbe school, by my daughter Georgina and Bertie. I feel that taking time to read to children is so important as it fires their imagination.

Sharon Eddie Head teacher at Mont a L'Abbe school commented, "In a time when technology takes such a big part in our lives I feel it is still important to promote the value of reading books. I am sure Alan's stories, based on familiar places, will intrigue children so that they are inspired and curious about each turn of the page. Ultimately we want all children to be motivated to read more and to experience the pleasure of sharing a good book.

Bertie said," They are very funny stories and I love my grandad reading them to me. I sit on his lap and laugh at Laurie the dog who eats seaweed and drinks bird bath water!
